Our Second Sunday of Advent is a definite call to action!Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.”[1] St. John the Baptist, does not mince his words. And so he should not have done. He is not talking about an unimportant matter – but that the salvation of our souls depends on our sincere repentance, our turning away from sins, especially those we become addicted to over the course of our lives!

We are also called to be prophets of Christ, who announce by our lives, as John did, the coming of the Lord.[2] No one is attracted to a wishy-washy Christian. We must stand out, albeit in a humble fashion, for our commitment to the truth, for our commitment to orthodoxy. How else can we prepare ourselves for the celebration of Christ’s coming, let alone for his Second one?

The ‘voice’ of the great prophet asks us to prepare the way for the coming Lord in the deserts of today, internal and external deserts, thirsting for the water of life which is Christ.[3]

What else can I say?
