Time is running out. Time is running out because we will soon be celebrating the birth of Jesus, the Incarnation! Time is running out because we have precious little time for preparing our hearts to be open to the visitation of our Lord. The Blessed Virgin knew that time was running out for her cousin Elizabeth. She would need her help. So, Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah.[1] She knew it was time to make her visitation.

Both women were expecting a child. Both women had great faith. Elizabeth on hearing the greeting of her cousin Mary“…gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.[2]The prayers they said have been said ever since. The stage was small but the audience has been millions ever since. They were not shy about their faith in their God.[3] Both she and Mary know that their unborn children will be part of God’s plan for the salvation of all.[4]

Maybe time is running out for any one of us. But it is never too late to seek the mercy of God the Father through his Incarnated Son. Why not make an effort, as Mary did, to make a journey to seek out the Sacrament of Reconciliation, so that you are prepared for the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The rest of preparations will then fall into place. Try it and see!
