Another familiar parable[1]that of the landowner and his tenants looking after his vineyard. Another familiar parable – one that challenges us right to the heart.

There are two aspects to this parable, one, “the infinite goodness, patience and mercy of God in His dealings with mankind, and the unsounded depths of wickedness and ingratitude to which men can sink.[2]

So, another familiar parable – with a very important message. The tenants decided not to give the produce to the landowner, instead they systematically killed the servants. “Finally, he sent his own son to them. ‘They will respect my son’,”[3] said the landowner. “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come on, let us kill him and take over his inheritance.’ “So, they seized him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.”

Yes, the tenants had another agenda – “they wanted their kingdom on earth.”[4] We can be like that too. Have we always respected the Son, Jesus Christ?
